Georgia Institute of Technology

The Georgia Institute of Technology is a public research university in Atlanta whose commercialization path runs through a record year of disclosures, patents, and licenses, and a startup system that covers faculty and students from first customer to scale.

Research expenditures are $1.4 billion. Fiscal year 2025 was the Institute’s strongest commercialization year on record: more than 460 invention disclosures, a 30% increase and the highest total ever, including 70 from the Georgia Tech Research Institute. The Institute executed 65 licenses, a 140% increase in licenses and a 210% increase in technologies licensed, and received 124 U.S. patents, up 20%. In the 2025 AUTM Licensing Activity Survey, Georgia Tech ranked 6th for invention disclosures, 8th for new patent applications, and 12th for issued U.S. patents. The National Academy of Inventors places Georgia Tech in the top 15 public universities for U.S. utility patents filed.

Commercialization is organized across seven units: Technology Licensing, VentureLab, CREATE-X, ATDC, Quadrant-i, the Pediatric Innovation Network, and The Venture Arcade.

  • Technology Licensing
Protects intellectual property from faculty, researchers, and students and licenses it to industry.
  • VentureLab
Guides faculty and students from lab to market, with customer discovery and access to funding.
  • CREATE-X and The Venture Arcade
CREATE-X launches student teams. The Venture Arcade then supports CREATE-X and Quadrant-i founders as they move from one customer to ten.
  • ATDC
The state startup accelerator inside the same commercialization system.

Investors and founders can reach Raghupathy “Siva” Sivakumar, vice president of commercialization and chief commercialization officer, through Technology Licensing.
