Globally, more than one billion individuals suffer from neuropsychiatric and mental health disorders, which has led to an increased demand for medical help. Approximately 77 million individuals in the U.S. are on antidepressants, anti-anxiety, antipsychotics, and mood stabilizers, and 30% to 60% are treatment-resistant to these drugs.
The composite industries have thrived towards sustainability by leveraging the materials strength vs weight to reduce emissions from trains, planes, boats and vehicles. But in the process they generated a large volume of landfill materials from their post industrial excess of technical fibers. in carbon fiber alone, the excess is estimated at 42 thousand metric tons per year. That is about 92.6 million lbs a year of lost resources and supplies at an estimated value > $1B per year.
Atlas Endoscopy is addressing critical inefficiencies in colorectal cancer screening and diagnosis, where traditional colonoscopy faces significant limitations. Over 80 million colonoscopies are performed annually worldwide, yet accessibility remains a challenge due to the need for sedation, risk of cross contamination due to the reusable colonoscope, and specialized facilities.
Skuld was founded by 2 metallurgists who did consulting to fund R&D into the AMEC process. Skuld was mothballed 20 months during COVID. The CEO went to work at Fabrisonic, a 3D printing company, and the value of the process became clear compared to other metal additive processes. Skuld was restarted in December 2021 with the CTO joining fulltime in January 2023 when we installed a small demo plant.
In fall 2024 we installed 8000 tons of melting capacity. The first problem is the existential crisis caused by global warming.
Azome Therapeutics was founded by the University of Florida’s Chair of Pediatrics, Dr. Rashmin Savani, and former pharmaceutical executives with a mission to revolutionize the treatment of inflammatory diseases. Azome’s patented technology is based on a significant body of research, some of which was published in Nature Communications.
Founded and based in RTP, NC by two female co-founders. Reverse osmosis (RO) membranes based on polyamides continue to dominate the market after 40 years because there are no better alternatives. Today, RO is being applied to new alternative water sources, such as wastewater, to solve the issue of water scarcity. Polyamide RO membranes are known to foul (clog) and fail as a result of biofouling because effective disinfectants like chlorine (bleach) are incompatible with polyamides.
Lepidext has a new solution to an old problem of controlling the corn earworm (CEW) and old world bollworm (OWB) pest complex. These two insects are considered the most important pests of agriculture costing annual damage and cost of control of $7-10 B globally. They are pests of dozens of food and fiber crops, are resistant to many insecticides including several of the pesticides expressed in genetically engineered crops such as corn, cotton and soybeans.
Current drug discovery is inefficient, slow, and costly; only a transformative approach to de-risk and economize discovery will deliver novel cancer therapeutics to suffering patients. To this end, Empath Biosciences has developed a process which will lead to a three-fold increase in optimized leads, each with >50% improvement in the probability of technical and regulatory success (PTRS) over standard small-molecule based discovery.
Parasight System Inc. aims to address the inefficiencies and inaccuracies in traditional veterinary diagnostic methods. Current approaches to fecal exams, heartworm detection, and Lyme disease testing often rely on manual processes that are time-consuming, prone to error, and dependent on subjective interpretation. This can lead to missed diagnoses or delayed treatments, ultimately affecting the health and well-being of animals. Parasight System's solution leverages advanced AI technology and antigen-based fluorescence detection to automate and enhance diagnostic accuracy.
